Calcutta Review

Started in 1844, the Calcutta Review continues to be published today. Its first editor was John William Kaye, followed by Alexander Duff, W. S. Mackay, Thomas Smith, George Smith and others. It was originally printed by Messrs Sanders and Cowes, Calcutta, but changed hands several times. Since 1921, it is owned and published by the University of Calcutta. The first series (1844-1912, Vol. 1 to Vol. 135) was published quarterly; the second series (1913-1920, Vol. 1 to Vol 8) was published bi-annually; and the third series (starting in 1921 with Vol. 1) was published monthly.
