Dawn

(1897-1904, Calcutta)

The Dawn was a monthly journal edited by Satis Chandra Mukherjee and published from Calcutta from March 1897 to July 1904 (Vol. 1 to Vol. 7, No. 12). It was followed by the → Dawn and Dawn Society’s Magazine (1904-1913).

  • Vol. 8 to Vol. 14 were additionally numbered Vol. 1 to Vol. 7 (New Series)
  • For Vol. 8 and Vol. 9, only six issues per year were published
  • The journal was not published from January to May 1899, from November to December 1907, and from November to December 1908

 

 

Vol. 1 to Vol 3 carried the subtitle A Monthly Magazine Devoted to Religion, Philosophy and Science; Vol. 4 to Vol. 7 were subtitled A Monthly Magazine Intended to Be an Organ of Higher Eastern and Western Thought. Beginning with Vol. 8, the journal was called the Dawn and Dawn Society’s Magazine.
